The Take Away Series Week 1 Wrap up!

Take Away Series Week 1

This week we saw a first in Australian competitive eating history with the introduction of a fully virtual national competition.

The Take Away Series is 4 events utilizing foods from popular fast food restaurants around Australia.

Each week 5 points are given to the winner, 4 points to 2nd place and so on until 5th place recieves 1 point.

This week, it was whoever could eat 2 large pizza’s from Domino’s the fastest.

James Gordana Rose was the first to start us off with an impressive time of 5:14.

The next two videos were from new comers, Jordan Lucas Brown and Lucas Stewart from  Creation Coachin (check their youtube channel here)
The boys put in a great effort and both finished! Their respective times were: 12:44 & 12:15!

Jordan’s Video:

Lucas’ Video:

Our next video was from Andy Mantequilla who clocked a very impressive 5′:40.  Andy will be one to look out for in the future rounds for sure, especially the twister challenge! Great technique and a large capacity!

The next entry came from Hungry Haydo and Gorgin’ Georgie.

gorgin'Gorgin’ was our second female competitor to register, and a terrific eater….large capacity and can put away good volumes of food!

Gorgin’ and Hungry completed their challenge at the same time.  Hungry posted the top time of the competition so far with 4:20.

Georgie was so close to finishing but after eating 2 pieces of lasagne, frozen yogurt with toppings, jelly beans, 2 eggs on toast, triple layer choc birthday cake and more, she couldnt quite fit it all in!

Here is their joint video:

The next entry to come in was from Ollie ‘The Ressler’ Ressom.  A new eater on the scene out of Melbourne that always loved eating, but had no idea about the Competitive Eating scene!  Ollie always had quite the hunger because of his work in the gym, and was excited to hear about the take away series.  Ollie also blew away the competition with a time of 3:29!! Nearly an entire minute quicker than Hungry!

After thinking all week, how much quicker can the times get…We got an entry from one of Australia’s best, Daniel Mercer!

Daniel, traditionally known for his large capacity has recently been competing in all events and now is not only a capacity eater, but also a making a name for himself as a speed eater aswell!

Check out Dan’s time of 2:55 here:

Unfortunetly, we had one of our contestants, The Hungry Ranga (Who hosts a great blog on eating ‘unusual’ foods around Melbourne (you check out her blog here).

Just as we though the week was over and Daniel was going to take the points…….Col The Conqueror emerges with the narrowest of margins…..2:50!!

Col the Conqueror, who is making quite the name for himself by getting to A LOT of competitions around Australia posted the fastest time of the week and will take the 5 points this week.  Check out his website, BIG EATS here,  and his Youtube channel here.

Check out his speedy video here:

And so ends the first week of competitiveeating.com.au’s Take Away Series!

Pancake Manor Shrove Tuesday Pancake Eating Competition, Brisbane – 4pm Sunday 17 February 2013 Results

Mesrati Kahsay (2nd) and Daniel Mercer (3rd)Results

One of the largest turnouts in Pancake Manor history graced this year’s Shrove Tuesday Pancake Eating Competition, with roughly 25 people taking part in what would be an epic battle between a select few.

Starting a little later than planned, at 4:25 the battle began, with eaters stuffing down their first plate of 2 pancakes in no time. Not soon after did most of the table have their hands raised asking for more pancakes. While it did take a while, this competition was going to be one that required a solid pace rather than initial speed.

Eaters consistently put aside empty plates, stacks growing at an even rate for the first 15 minutes of the competition. Cameron Jukes (known for his Yardbird challenges) was setting a cracking pace, constantly raising his hands and becoming frustrated at the speed of which more pancakes were being brought out. Daniel Mercer kept pace, and didn’t let Cameron get too far ahead.

20 minutes into the competition and eaters started fading quickly, with some eaters looking to take a nap on their soft, fluffy treats.

While the pace had stopped for some, the first official disqualification came 30 minutes into the competition, where one eater lifted himself from the table, retiring most likely to the bathroom for some sort of relief.

By this stage, Daniel Mercer had cut quite a lead ahead of Cameron, who looked to be struggling from a combination of pancakes, syrup and butter. And all the while, Ratti YK was quietly continuing to smash pancakes at the end of the table, quickly catching up to Cameron at an aggressive, but constant pace.

48 minutes saw another disqualification, this time at the hands of the first and only reversal of the competition. A well aimed mini-chuck thankfully, but a disqualification nonetheless.

At 50 minutes, everyone other than Daniel had pretty much called it quits. Ratti YK knew he was a comfortable second place, Cameron had stopped eating. All that was left now was the question, how many MORE pancakes can Daniel eat?!?!

With only a few minutes to go, Daniel put away one last plate of food. With a total of 28 pancakes, Daniel took home not only the win, but the crown of undisputed record holder!

First Place: Daniel Mercer – 28 Pancakes

Second Place: Ratti YK – 15 Pancakes

Third place: Cameron Jukes – 13 Pancakes

Yardbird Ale House Death Sentence Wing Challenge Championship, Fortitude Valley – 8pm Saturday 8 December 2012 Results

Results

The time had come. The finalists were ready. The crowd was large and pumped. Who would be first to be crowned, “The Lord of the Wings” and have the honour of holding aloft the prized “Golden Chicken” trophy.

The finalists were ready, they were:

  • Jared “Jihad” Martin – Winner of round 1 with a record setting 39 wings.
  • Rhys “The Squeeze” Endres – Second place in round 2 with 36 wings
  • Tristan “The Wing Wizard” Want – Third place in round 2 with 32 wings
  • Colin “The Conqueror” MacLaurin – First place in round 3 with 29 wings
  • Cameron “Latearama” Jukes – Second place in round 3 with 26 wings

A slightly different format greeted our finalists, each being presented with a silver platter of 39 wings, the current Yardbird Ale House Wing Challenge record, ready for them to be devoured by our brave wing warriors.

Once the guests were seated and the wings presented, contestants and the crowd alike were taken aback by the fumes emanating from their wing platters. The heat of this sauce was unprecedented. Even though the recipe was the same, the heat from the wings fresh from the fryer caused the sauce to steam, wafting throughout the arena and striking fear into those who were about to compete.

As always, everyone started out strong. It takes some minutes before the heat of the wings creep up on the contestants, and once it does, they all become vocal describing the pain that they’re in. Rhys began firing verbal obscenities at the judge almost immediately, at one point saying that he “hated him so much right now”. Even having his brow mopped by his beautiful female assistant wasn’t enough to quell the pain that was the Death Sentence Wing Sauce.

As time progressed, a lead started to form, with the reigning record holder pulling away from the pack quickly. Others slowed, hit hard by the heat coming from the Death Sentence sauce.

Nearing the end of the competition, Tristan “The Wing Wizard” want rose from his seat, determined to catch up to Jared in a last ditch attempt to take the title. Third place was being battled out closely between Cameron “Latearama” Jukes and Colin “The Conqueror” MacLaurin. Rhys “The Squeeze” Endres lagged behind, clearly thrown by the heat.

In the end, there could only be one winner. And that winner would be none other than the current record holder Jared “Jihad” Martin!

First Place: Jared “Jihad” Martin – 33 Wings, winning $100 bar tab, a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniel’s Whiskey, and being the first person to hold aloft the Golden Chicken trophy!

Second Place: Tristan “The Wing Wizard” Want – 30 Wings, winning $50 bar tab

Third Place: Colin “The Conqueror” MacLaurin and Cameron “Latearama” Jukes, tied with 27 wings each, winning $25 bar tab each.

The World’s Hottest Burger Mega Death Challenge – Sunday 2 December 2012 Results

Results

12 competitors battled it out for the $500 first prize, in what was to be an extremely hot day for all involved, not just from the burger but from the blistering heat of the day!

Once seated, eaters were given a brief explanation of the rules, the most notable being that the burger could not be pulled apart. You were allowed to cut the burger into halves, but no pulling apart the bun or salad. Soon afterwards, a casual “and we’re away”, and everyone commenced the competition.

A few of the contestants bowed out early, unable to cope with the unbelievable heat stored in the Megadeath burgers served up by the famous diner. The chilli infused meat, the buns smothered in Blairs Mega Death sauce, the mountains of onions. All of this added up to what would be a painful experience for all.

Daniel took the lead early, with eaters beside him realising they had no chance of winning, asking what the prize for second place would be. No doubt considering throwing in the towel!

In a record 5:45, Daniel Mercer takes out first place.

In what seemed like an eternity, second place was won by Sam in 8:33, and a closely fought 3rd place won by Skip.

Only a few mouthfuls behind, 4th place was taken by Colin “The Conqueror” MacLaurin.

In a true act of defiance, one competitor stayed behind, determined to finish the burger, and did!

Piefection Chilli Pie Eating Contest, Mt Gravatt – 2pm Saturday 24 November 2012 Results

Close up!Results:

The inaugural Piefection Chilli Pie Eating Contest saw 12 contestants battle it out, eating 10 of their scorching chilli pies as fast as possible. The rules were simple. No drinks, eat 10 pies as fast as you can, winner gets the glory!

These pies were certainly spicy! Laced with birds eye chillies, the heat started slow but crept up on you. For a normal eater, you’d get about half way through these mini hot pies, and your eyes would start to water severely!

While they may have been small, the heat certainly made up for the lack of volume!

Starting strong, Daniel Mercer dashed ahead of the field, while other eaters seemed shocked at the rate the pies on his plate were disappearing. 2 pies in, certain in their defeat, Cam and Alex reach for their glasses of milk, a sign of surrender and instant disqualification.

Dillon put up a brave fight, eating a considerable number in the short time, but in 3:22, Daniel had already taken first place, and the others put down their spicy little pies, almost all reaching soon after for creamy relief.
